During the Second World War, Lieutenant Kelly learns of a German bank is located behind the enemy lines with 16 million U.S. dollars in gold bars. His train, led by Big Joe, has three days of R & R, yes, with the help of hustler Crapgame, anachronistic hippie Oddball, three Sherman tanks and a touch of irreverence, Kelly leads his men deep into French territory steal the gold for themselves.

Clint Eastwood combined with his Where Eagles Dare director Brian G. Hutton for another unlikely but entertaining WWII capers. Kelly's Heroes has its moments of war-time spectacle and many slambang action, but it also has much comedy thrown in. Many critics judged the film pretty hard, moaning about how it is inappropriate for a film to mix jokes and war. But in truth, Kelly's Heroes never claimed to be a serious wartime account - and the humorous undercurrent helps the film rather than hinder it.
A bunch of American GIs are there for a few days away from the front during the Second World War. However, they are not too impressed by the quiet, peaceful and excessive "boozeless" village, where they already said to relax. A member of the group, Kelly (Eastwood), has learned of a fortune in Nazi gold market hidden in a bank in a German-occupied city of about thirty or more miles behind enemy lines. He tells the other guys about them and they decide to risk their lives to achieve is to hoard. Of course, the drawing of a bank robbery is not an easy task in the best times, but if the bank is so far into enemy territory ......< br>
Eastwood should relax back, but the real stars the show is Telly Savalas (dynamic and hilarious as Big Joe) and Donald Sutherland (a hippie tank driver, so chilled-he is happy to eat cheese, drink wine and sunbathe in the middle of a chaotic battle!) The pyrotechnics are well orchestrated , And Troy Kennedy Martin invested the script with the kind of banter amusing and exciting set pieces that he had to The Italian Job a year earlier. Kelly's Heroes is totally unsubtle and totally removed from reality - but what it lacks in time makes it difficult for the spectacular destruction and with pockets of entertainment.
