Roger Rabbit is a cartoon character, (along with many others), in addition to the real people. Eddy is a private eye, has seen better days and was on the skids since the death of his brother in the hands of a Toon (cartoon character). Rogers' chief Eddy staff to see if his sexy wife has other male interests, but things get out of hand, like Roger framed for murder with no one but the Toon Eddy hate to go to watch for help.

this for the umpteenth time, I am impressed by how much of this film resembles Brazil (1985). What you will say it was a dark and serious history in a terrible dystopia. Ah, yes, but one of his main weapons was his satirical over-the-top humor.
Well, Roger Rabbit reverses the formula. We seem to have a zany cartoon comedy. This is but a story about racism and genocide. The cartoon characters, side by side with people who are tolerated as subordinated race, good for "singing and dancing and jumping and running." They are called "Toons", which resembles another epithet that used to be a nasty name for black people. And the "solution" is just that - a solution of benzene and acetone, the eradication of Toons resolve them.
Both films are in something that resembles the 1940's, which are lots of opportunity for spoofing films noir of the type that Bogart et al. used to make.
How could something so serious to be funny? The best comedy is only a hare-width (sorry, could not resist) from drama that is the reason why Hogan's Heroes is so funny, while Disney comedies fall flat from gooey sentiment. Children like Roger Rabbit, and this should be the ultimate test, whether it's comic or not.
It still amazes me how many adults do not perceive the underlying message of tolerance and understanding. Maybe they do not want ...
