part of the success of this kind of film is the setup and ensure its resolution lives up to its expectations. I must say that in this film, everything seems to work, and yet ... I am not sure what spooked more: the end or the nature of its ending.
The film deals with the adventures of a young care worker in the middle of Louisiana. The atmospheric environment, the spectre score, beautiful, eerie photography, and some very good with Rowlands and Kate Hudson raise the bar for future "horror films". We stick to the screen for nearly two hours, how things are mysterious and fascinating. A few times we are in one sweep and a revelation, but what closes the film is bound to ruffle a few feathers.
Above all, this is a very good film, with a script that does not cheat anyone and not to stupid gimmicks. These factors should show good tidings for its success in its original version, but it will probably become a classic of its kind, the heroine in distress managed wiser than the usual stereotypes. She wants to explore the environment and to solve the problem. The problem is, she has no idea how bad the situation may be.
Gena Rowlands offers its character and nuances rarely seen in this kind of film. It is a strange sort and hooks to the public from the beginning. There is not really an archetype for what Rowlands brings to life. A few of the previous statement could be questionable, but if you followed closely the development of their character, it is almost an original.
Kate Hudson makes a very strong impression in this film. It goes beyond the pretty actress to an accomplished performer, matches up to Rowland's intensity. They navigated the film with an ease rarely seen in today's roster of plastic prepackaged pseudo-celebrities. It is refreshing to see an actress to make sure the character that has so often seen as an offensive stereotype. There is no gratitude screaming scenes here. The film reminds me of "The Others", a movie with substance and intelligence.
This is a film that I highly recommend to my friends, especially because I want to hear what they have to say about the extension.
